The city of Parma, Missouri, has seen mass resignations
among the local police force after the city’s first black female
mayor, Tyrus Byrd, was sworn in on Tuesday. Five of the force’s six officers handed in their resignations to the outgoing mayor — but they weren’t the only ones to quit on the new mayor.
Beyond microaggressions.
This is what black women have to deal with in any professional situation. This is the most extreme, but we are constantly having to prove our competence.
I feel for this woman. I really do.
But those cops who are such racist pieces of shit they refuse to work for a Black woman? Good riddance. Mayor Byrd and the whole community will be better off without them in positions of authority.
Wait, it’s bigger than this. This mayor ran on an anti-corruption platform, and there were a total of twenty people who resigned from various parts of the city – city attorney, police, water supervision. It’s suspected that they were all linked to the previous mayor and were part of the corruption she was campaigning against. Citizens have been complaining for years about the corruption with the previous Mayor Randall, and it’s suspected that these resignations were from his cronies.
Which makes her the one of the most effective mayors in the U.S. simply by being elected.
“In the throes of labour … they would be approached, harassed, coerced into signing these consent forms,” said Alisa Lombard, an associate with Maurice Law, the first Indigenous-owned national law firm in Canada.
The women would be told that they could not leave until their tubes were tied, cut or cauterized, she added, or that “they could not see their baby until they agreed.”
My aunt shared this with me on Facebook. Ongoing genocide still at work.
The FBI is being sued (again) for doing this: Oregon resident Yonas
Fikre was added to the No-Fly list while he was out of the country in
Sudan; he was told by the FBI that the only way he could come home was
to turn informant, whereupon they would remove him from the list.
Fikre is suing the FBI in federal court, and the Bureau is desperate to
escape the courtroom, so they removed him from the No-Fly list and asked
the judge to end the trial.
But the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals says
that Fikre still has standing to sue the FBI. Fikre was kidnapped and
tortured by UAE police, at the behest of the FBI. He ended up stuck in
Sweden, and is seeking an admission that he should never have been put
on the list, as well as damages for his significant hardship.
It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid. That is what is beginning to happen here, now, to Hispanic citizens along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Oh, is it bad to compare the GOP to Nazis? Well, if members of the GOP do not like being compared to Nazis, they should consider not behaving exactly like Nazis.
Hispanic U.S. citizens, some of whom were in the U.S. military, are not being allowed to renew their passports. This is reportedly happening to “hundreds, even thousands” of Latinos, according to a report in the Washington Post. They’re getting letters from the State Department saying it does not believe they are citizens. The government claims their citizenships are fraudulent. “I’ve had probably 20 people who have been sent to the detention center—U.S. citizens,” Jaime Diez, an attorney in Brownsville, told The Washington Post.
The Washington Post also reports on ICE officials coming to citizens’ homes and taking their passports away. This is an escalation from a few months ago, when Americans were detained by ICE officials just for speaking Spanish to one another.
The administration is currently launching an effort to take citizenship from people who they suspect of fraud in obtaining it. Fraud in these cases is exceedingly rare. The last time the government tried to strip people of their citizenship was, according to Columbia Professor Mae Ngai, during The Red Scare of the 1950s. As Ngai remarks, McCarthyism is not typically remembered as a good period in American history.
There is good reason to believe that this could portend still worse things to come for the U.S. Hispanic population, unless people begin to speak out loudly, and fast.
I cant read this bc itll send me into a desperare panic but, here
