not to be mean or anything but that american missionary who got killed by the sentinelese was dumb as fuck.

like…its well documented that they’re a tribe that is aggressive to outsiders, it’s illegal to approach the island itself, and they will kill anyone who trespasses. not only that, because they’re an uncontacted people they have no resistance to modern diseases. he risked wiping out a large portion of an already small population because he wanted to proselytize.

and also they almost certainly have their own independent language that only they can speak. dude was just going to walk up and go what’s gonna sound like “oogity boogity” to them and hope they accept jesus cause of it? dumbass.

He was a missionary. Somewhere in the Bible, not sure where, it says the world will not end until everyone on earth has heard about Jesus Christ. He was a Christian which means he believed that and he was doing it bc he believed he was called to do so. I don’t know if he was really called to do so or not but if he was he was just being an obidient servant of God. You’re probably not Christian and that’s okay, but he was and so am I. If he really believed he was called to do so for whatever reason, he just wanted to spread the word of God to those people so they could be saved, he wanted to see them worship God on earth, and their souls to be with God in his kingdom of of Heaven. I understand he didn’t speak their language and I’m sure he knew more then just that they were an island in India who didn’t know about Jesus Christ. Anyways, he just wanted to give God to as many people as he could, he wasn’t a “dumb ass” for believing in something that you and other non Christians don’t understand. I don’t have anything against Non Christians but I just thought it was wrong for you to publicly disrespect him like that simply bc you don’t agree and spread something rude/hurtful about someone you didn’t know/understand.

I don’t usually get involved in discourse and I fully respect your religious beliefs, but I don’t respect using religion as an excuse to do whatever you want regardless of law and the beliefs and feelings of others. As OP said, going to that island was ILLEGAL and he put not only himself at risk but risked spreading deadly disease that could wipe out the small number of protected people. The tribe has made clear that they don’t want contact with outsiders, and will kill those who disrespect their wishes. They have their own culture and beliefs and language that he would not have been able to communicate in. He wouldn’t have been able to beg for his life, let alone spread the word of God, and any past cases of forcing indigenous tribes to accept religious beliefs and modern culture has never gone well for those people. If he wasn’t completely ignorant of the risks to himself and the island (and he certainly wasn’t ignorant of the law), than he was a dangerous and reckless person deliberately engaging those risks. I can understand and appreciate his curiosity and dedication, but I have no warm feelings towards the willing risks he took and the harm he could have caused people by going against their wishes without any sort of permission or way to protect them from harmful bacteria.

“He was a missionary. Somewhere in the Bible, not sure where, it says the world will not end until everyone on earth has heard about Jesus Christ”

can you imagine a) being so arrogant that you think you have a right to force your faith on others while utterly disrespecting their own beliefs and b) being excited for the apocalypse, which would involve the horrific suffering of countless people?

He fucking deserved it and I’m glad he’s dead. The world is better off. Fuck Christianity and the endless evil it perpetuates in the world—I don’t give a fuck about someone’s religious beliefs when they use them to try to “civilize the savages”.

Your religious beliefs do not entitle you to genocide, cultural or otherwise.
